For those of you who have already discovered Christchurch’s best kept secret for stylish kids’ clothes, costumes and presents for children, SmartyPants needs no introduction. But if you haven’t stumbled across this little gem, you’ve got a treat in store.
In May 2017 SmartyPants moved to The Landing, Wigram Skies, with a bigger, brighter and better than before store. If you have kids in your life, whether you’re a parent, aunt or uncle, grandparent or a doting godparent, you’ll know how hard it is to find good kids’ clothes and gifts in Christchurch.

A costume cave and a pocket money wall
We met up with SmartyPants founder Sarah and her intrepid six-year-old product tester Coren, to find out what SmartyPants has in store for The Landing.
Sarah is fizzing with enthusiasm for the shop. Her costume cupboard is a huge costume cave. SmartyPants have the largest range of kids costumes in Christchurch, and stock everything from Disney dress ups, to exquisite handmade creations by a local costume maker.
The famous SmartyPants pocket money wall, is supersized with toys from $5.00 to $15.00, perfect for stocking stuffers, or party bags. Sarah says it really is a pocket money wall too; local kids come in on their way home from school to browse and spend their carefully saved dollars.

Mindful toys for happy creative kids
One of SmartyPants big things is mindful toys, toys that engage children’s minds and creativity. Their most popular range is Tiger Tribe’s portable activity sets. These are a big hit with people hunting presents for birthday parties. Sarah stocks a large range of toys in the $15-$30 price range. She feels passionate about offering high quality toys that don’t break the bank.
The range of toys is Huge; Green Toys, cute robust trucks, boats and diggers made from recycled milk bottles. Cactus Watches, designed to help kids learn to tell the time. Bo-Po peel off nail varnish and create your own nail art kits. Shrinkles creative key tag and necklace kits, a sure-fire hit with parents who grew up shrinking crisp packets in the oven. Aqua Dragons are another gift with retro charm, brine shrimps, or sea monkeys rebranded, a fantastic educational gift for kids.

Story time and a family friendly environment
At The Landing SmartyPants have weekly story time, with a treasure chest of hats, masks, and tails for the kids to join in the fun.
SmartyPants have a large contained kids’ play area, so you can shop without distractions. There is a bathroom and changing facilities, mothers are welcome to breastfeed, and the team will be happy to warm up a bottle for you. Sarah says the SmartyPants experience for parents is so important.

Sarah loves being at The Landing. She lives nearby, and she’s huge on keeping it local. She says The Landing is such a supportive community, and the other store owners have already made her feel welcome.
