Families and film-buffs can look forward to a state-of-the-art cinema experience next year with a luxury cinema complex approved for The Landing at Wigram Skies.
Silky Otter is a new movie-going concept from former Timaru Movie Max manager Rob Jeromson, which aims to revitalise the neighbourhood cinema experience.
His planned chain is opening its first complex in Remuera this month, promising brighter and crisper picture quality and sound with laser projection, reclining leather seating, and mouth-watering food options.
Ngāi Tahu Property recently sold the site – a prime corner at the entrance to The Landing on Corsair Dr and The Runway – to Canterbury Property Investments, which will carry out the $7 million development. The design has now gained resource consent from Christchurch City Council.
Construction of the complex will likely begin this summer, with the eight-screen, boutique-style theatres expected to begin screenings by the end of 2020.
“Ngāi Tahu Property is excited that Silky Otter Cinemas is coming to The Landing,” development manager Blair Brown says.
“We think it will provide some much-needed entertainment options for the community and also increase people’s awareness of the great dining and shopping options which are already there.
“We will watch the progress of this development with interest and look forward to welcoming Silky Otter to The Landing in the next year.”
